How to Organize Your Kitchen

Making the Most of Kitchen Space

If you enjoy cooking (or eating), then you likely spend a good deal of time in your kitchen. It’s where the culinary magic happens. Sometimes, though, you may find yourself scrambling to find what you need or to find storage space for that nifty new tool you bought. Never fear! There are many small tricks that can help you take your kitchen organization to the next level. At Williamsburg North, you can enjoy a spacious, fully-equipped kitchen you’ll never want to leave. Coming soon, you’ll be able to lease a newly-renovated apartment, complete with granite countertops, new black appliances, luxury vinyl flooring, updated modern lighting, and more!

#1: Magnetize It

This fun and useful hack takes some of the storage out of your cabinets and puts it on your fridge! There are many different styles of magnetic organizers, but there are a few that are super useful. The first is a magnetic paper towel holder. Think about it. You reach for paper towels all the time, but they usually take up room on the counter or under the sink. Gain back that valuable space and keep them accessible on the front of your fridge. The second most useful option is a spice or jar rack. This keeps your most commonly used seasonings out and ready to use. Plus, you won’t have to dig around in a cabinet that has no lighting. You can even get extra cool and get a rack that integrates a spice/jar rack, a paper towel holder, and utensil hooks at the bottom.

#2: Over, Not Just Under

When you think of your bottom cabinets, you’re putting things under. But what about over? There are many styles of simple over-the-cabinet organizers that are great for storing cleaning supplies. Imagine all of the space you could get back under your sink if you had somewhere to put all of those bottles. That frees up one of your larger cabinets to store large items instead of becoming a mess of supplies.

#3: Think Vertical

If you open up your cabinets right now, odds are that you’ll notice a bunch of empty space above the things you have stored in there. That is wasted vertical space that you can easily gain back. To do this, start with some small, clear containers. Ideally, you’d want to get containers that are more shallow so you can easily stack them and use up every bit of the vertical space in your cabinets. Clear containers also make it easy to see what’s inside, or you can add a small label with a list of what’s inside. This gives it twice the organization benefits! You also won’t have to worry about knocking things over trying to reach that one ingredient at the back.

#4: Go Over the Top

Counter space is precious, so you want to save it more for cooking than for storage. However, you can’t avoid those pesky dishes that won’t fit in your dishwasher or that just have to be hand washed. That can take up a lot of room very quickly. So why not go over the top? There are over-the-sink drying racks that will help you in three ways. There’s no drying rack taking up space on your counter, as soon as a dish is washed, the rack is right there, and all of the water drainage goes conveniently down the sink.
