Winter Fun and Festivals in Indianapolis

Cold Weather Hotspots in Indianapolis

The cold can become an excuse to stay inside all winter, but there is no reason to be a homebody if you live in apartments in north Indianapolis. At Williamsburg North, our residents enjoy easy access to a multitude of top destinations in and around the city. And winter is full of opportunities to get out, have fun, and make some memories! Here are a few ideas to get you started this season.

Carmel Ice Skadium and Arctic Zone Iceplex in Westfield

These two locations are top spots for some ice skating fun on the northside. The Carmel Ice Skadium features some awesome adult hockey leagues, and the Arctic Zone Iceplex has some skating options for everyone. You can go check things out for public skating, figure skating (including camps and competitions), hockey, and even private events.

The Polar Express™ Train Ride

If you love the book, love the film, or love both, this is a great experience for you. Passengers hop aboard a fully themed train ride that starts in Connersville, Indiana, about an hour east of Indianapolis. As you ride, you’ll enjoy dancing servers with hot chocolate, your very own golden ticket to punch, and more, all from the book!

Garfield Park Conservatory

The Garfield Park Conservatory is a great destination for any time of the year, but the holidays are extra special. First, you’ll get to enjoy nice warm temperatures and beautiful plants. But for the month of December, you can also come for Conservatory Crossing, a special event with twinkling lights, a model train with a village, and more themed displays.

Koteewi Run

If you crave an outdoor adventure this winter, Koteewi Run is the perfect place. It is the only location in Indiana with a groomed snow tubing hill. Visitors get to use custom tubes to ride down the hill, and there is a tow line to help you make your way back to the top.

Jingle Rails Snow Globe Workshop

On December 10th, you can make your way to the Eiteljorg for a special experience. There are already plenty of fun things to do at the museum in winter, including seeing the iconic Jingle Rails exhibit with G-scale model trains. But on this day, you can also create your own snow globe to take home.

Sensory Snow Day at the Damar Holiday Village

Damar Village is a very special residential community for individuals with developmental disabilities. For the holidays, they create a large outdoor light display, the Damar Holiday Village. They also have a unique Sensory Snow Day on December 17th where the event is tailored to individuals with sensory needs, including sensory toys and calm-down areas. Be sure to RSVP so you have a time slot to meet Santa!
